It works by equipping homes with green technology — solar panels, a home battery, and a heat pump — which together enable the home to generate more energy than it consumes.
The scheme is powered by Octopus's proprietary tech platform, Kraken, which intelligently manages your home's energy production, storage, and consumption. Kraken optimises when to draw from the battery vs. the grid, exports surplus solar energy at peak wholesale prices, and runs the heat pump at maximum efficiency.

What happens after the 5-10 year guarantee period?
After the guarantee period ends, you'll move to a standard Octopus Energy tariff. However, your home will still benefit from the solar generation and battery storage, keeping your bills significantly lower than average.
Is electric vehicle charging included?
No, EV charging is billed separately at Octopus's Intelligent Octopus Go tariff rate, which offers ultra-cheap overnight charging rates. Your home will include an EV charger ready to use.
What if I use more energy than expected?
Each home gets a fair usage allowance set at roughly double the expected annual consumption (~10 MWh/year for a typical 3-bed). If exceeded, additional electricity is charged at standard Flexible Octopus rates, billed annually. Most households won't exceed this.
Do I have to switch to Octopus Energy?
Yes, the Zero Bills tariff is exclusive to Octopus Energy customers. You'll need to switch your energy supply to Octopus to benefit from the guarantee.
What about the government grant?
The £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is applied directly to your installation cost. As an MCS-certified installer, CRG Direct handles the grant application on your behalf through Ofgem.
Is my home eligible for retrofit?
